July 2015 quote

Summer is a great time to linger a few moments where the mood strikes. Instead of reflexive breaths, inhale leisurely, deeply, and gain perspective.

Watch the days stretch, loiter and recoil into cool evenings. If you could spend two hours doing just what you want, what would it be?

Attack an item on that home improvement list? Tackle a new hobby? Assess personal goals?

Fall is just around the corner with its back-to-school rush. Why not lounge in a comfy chair, an iced latte in one hand or another delicious beverage, and jot down your inspirations from this month’s inSCRIBE?

You walk to your backyard in time to see a rabbit hop out of…?writing prompt July 2015

We would like to introduce to you Annette Clark, editor, educator and journalist. Her company AIC Communication Services offers freelance writing and editing for projects large and small. She will join us monthly to share inspiration and tips on design, content, and upkeep to help you optimize your writing.

This month: Don’t Fear the Editor

“There’s something about editors that scares people. I’m not sure why. We’re a happy-go-lucky, cuddly bunch…

Okay, maybe not so much. We do tend toward exacting standards, a martinet demeanor, and fanatical grammar tendencies. Warm and fuzzy we’re not, but there are ways to safely approach the savage editing animal.”

Relief

According to a Huffington Post article, “…slower breathing style allows the parasympathetic system (which is responsible for your ability to relax) to override your sympathetic system (which controls your automatic stress response). With slow breathing, you’ll feel the rib cage expand to let the lungs fill completely, and then fall back into its natural position as you exhale.” Discover the Six Breathing Exercises to help you fall asleep faster here.

Researchers are discovering more and more about the brain’s influence on our overall health. Here’s more news for chronic pain sufferers, “Chronic pain is known to cause brain anatomy changes and impairments, but yoga can be an important tool for preventing or even reversing the effects of chronic pain on the brain, according to a National Institutes of Health (NIH) official speaking at the American Pain Society’s annual meeting.” – ScienceDaily, May 15, 2015 citing the American Pain Society’s article, “Yoga and chronic pain have opposite effects on brain gray matter.” Check out the whole article…

Technology

HipChat, the instant messaging app for businesses, gets a thumbs up at GetApp.com. HipChat is “Designed for teams of all sizes, HipChat goes beyond basic group chatting functionality, including tools for sharing files and looping colleagues into conversations when their input is needed. Faster than email and less time consuming than the telephone, group chats conducted through HipChat can happen anywhere at any time.”

Interested in learning from that comfy chair? Curious.com is “the largest community of lifelong learners.” Code, craft, cook, tech, music, language, business, whatever your topic, discover new information, stretch your knowledge and converse in a new language.

If you’re an avid evening e-reader, you may miss some sleep due your device’s light rays. Opera is one solution, “There’s an optional night reading mode which will let you dim your device’s backlight from inside the app, and there’s a new optional ‘bedtime’ mode.” Opera is a browser app for both Android and Apple devices.
